Dans l'obscurité au-delà de la galaxie, il y a des monstres. Certains nagent plus près de la lumière, attirés par la balise qu'est l'Astronomican, tandis que d'autres traquent le Vide, prédateurs dans l'obscurité. Les Carcharodons ont chassé pendant des millénaires, mais maintenant ils sont attirés dans une nouvelle noirceur… la sombre cité des drukhari. Commorragh.

Pendant mille ans, l'aumônier Tangata Manu a recherché une relique perdue sous sa surveillance - une chose ancienne, autrefois chargée de la garde de l'Oublié lui-même. Mais au bord de voir sa chasse accomplie et la relique retournée, elle est volée sous ses yeux. Maintenant, si Tangata veut voir son honneur rétabli, il doit mener sa chasse contre certains des plus vils prédateurs que la galaxie ait jamais vus, avant qu'ils ne puissent utiliser l'artefact à leurs propres fins ...
